Reel Canada
For my IDC class we went on a field trip to the Reel Canada film festival. It was allot of fun we watched one movie in the morning and one in the afternoon and then go to have discussion we people that took part in producing the movie. The whole theme of the Reel Canada film festival is to expose teenagers to Canadian film. For the most part the movies that youth watch are main stream American pop culture. While Canadian movies are left unrecognized and unappreciated. The two movies I watched were Shark Water and Bon Cop Bad Cop. In Bon Cop Bad Cop you could really tell that it was Canadian produced. Not just from the setting that was Montreal mostly but also from the plot. It was about a hockey crazed serial killer who is trying to be found by a team of a two cops one from Montreal the other Toronto. Hockey being one of the main themes of the movie and Canada's favourite game it really speaks to a Canadian audience. There also the tension between the two cops because of typical Ontario Quebec differences. Only a Canadian audience would understand the humor behind that which I really like because it makes the movie truly Canadian. I hope the Canadian films start to get more exposure because they would be appreciated if they got the right publicity.
